The expression on the dog's face as she models the toad's hat is priceless.

At a certain angle, Toady looks very presidential.

I like that Mr. Toad seems pretty much okay with the whole thing. Or at least he's got that Samuel L Jackson-in-a-Kangol look down.

Possibly also relevant to this post: cats in wigs.

Also relevant: Sneezy the Penn State Squirrel.

Sneezy has been going strong for at least four years. Her facebook page is an absolute delight. You should friend her.

Oh, to have been born in a time when a toad could wear a hat every day and need never fear the harsh judgments of strangers...

He needs to make Mr. Toad a motoring outfit, like the original Toad.

Cultural tangent: Mojo Nixon played Toady in the Super Mario Bros movie.

I hope there's a MacArthur Genius Award for whoever realized you could attach a monocle to the brim of a pet-sized hat for instant added sophistication

Then there's this picture of a kitten in a hat which I've been sending to everyone I know and which I just found out is photoshopped. D'oh! (Even though someone could make a hat that looked like that and someone should do that.)

This makes me unreasonably happy; so thank you very much for this post.

Last night I was out with Mr Fig, and he was talking to me about something important and I was sort of half-assed skimming through facebook (I had my phone on the table off to the side, so my attention was mostly on husband). Then, I caught a glimpse of "man makes hats for toad" and immediately all attention was on phone and I made some sort of involuntary noise. Husband gave me the disappointed exasperated look I get when my brain finds cute animals more deserving of attention than his important talkings, but when I lifted the phone to show him, he was like "hah! oh wow"

So, if you want to bring a conversation to a dead stop and direct it elsewhere, have a bookmark to the "tiny toad gets custom tiny hats made for it" article, and just flash that at whoever you're talking to.

I'm reminded of my favourite part of my favourite documentary:

"Sometimes I call him Greeny, and sometimes I call him Reddy. Sometimes I call him Cane-Almost-Toad, and sometimes I call him Dairy Queen."

I certainly agree with the person who commented that putting a hat on a toad is a perfectly reasonable thing to do. I also enjoyed the snake hat and the lizards in hats.

Reptiles can really rock headgear.

I'm on the wrong device, but somewhere I have a picture of my python Bella, curled up in a feather boa, so we put a tiara on her, as you do, and took a picture. She's quite the queen, is our Isabella.

I can't tell you how much time I've wasted making beautiful hats for pets who absolutely refuse to wear them.

I think I do have a picture somewhere of the late, great Mr. Whiskers in a Pharoah headdress, though.

Without doubt, the guinea pigs steal the show. No other animal can rock a hat quite like a guinea pig
