I wonder if this is the weirdest thing that has dropped out of the sky in Florida. There's a lot of shady cargo down there.

Not long ago I had a dream that I heard Canada's planes were coming to bomb us. I was horrified, but I accepted that we deserved it, said my final farewells to everyone, and went into the forest to die. Turned out they weren't bombing us, they were flying overhead carrying bombs, and I just misread the headlines on social media. Everybody had a good laugh, except me.

Eh, I mean we probably shouldn't be ones to complain about getting bombed.

We totally will, though.

Good thing they got the raft back. That's probably our only seaworthy vessel.

Consider that a warning shot.

Between this, and the recent Russian announcement, I bet some difficult questions are being asked over at the Pentagon right now.

Not quite Florida, but just to the north a nuke fell out of the sky, never to be seen again.

This event is what we in the US should now refer to as the War of Northern Aggression.

The War of Northern Aggression

Don’t you think that’s a little over-inflated?
posted by nickmark at 4:48 AM on March 2, 2018 [16 favorites]

Sloppy reporting.
The inflated raft was being carried by a Canadian CH-146 Griffin helicopter ...
. . .
The tightly-packaged raft—two by two feet in size ...
At what point did it go from inflated to tightly-packaged?

On the other hand, it could be seen as a spreemptive rescue effort for flooding resulting from climate change/the 2018 hurricane season.

Involuntary rescue efforts... We are only trying to help you escape your corporate/political/Russian overloads, people from Cuba still flee on rafts, maybe you want to come North, eh?

(Or not, after last nights nasty snowstorm in my region...)

Timbits are small, they don't need a lot of room.

Maybe 15 years ago a CF-18 accidentally dropped a missile on our golf course when the Canadian Forces were up here for training exercises. So that was exciting.

A couple Canadian soldiers went and collected the raft on the same day because, you know, that shit is super expensive and our military is pretty underfunded.

Can't stop giggling.

Between the Russia mock-bombing Mar-A-Lago and the Canadians throwing us a life saver, literally, I think it's time we inhabitants of Florida pack up, go north, and leave webcams behind to watch this place turn back into swamp on our smart phones.

For like 30-ish percent of the state that's go back north.
