this sounds like an outtake from amon duul ii's hijack album - until the chorus, which sounds like the legendary stardust cowboy on quaaludes

probably more fun to make than listen to

I wish I had ever enjoyed anything as much as this dude enjoyed making this metal cover of Africa.

I wish I had ever enjoyed anything as much as this dude yt enjoyed making this metal cover of Africa.

That man is — and I do not use this word lightly — rejoicing.

Every metalhead I've ever hung out with, from birth to now, has an attitude like this guy is putting on display. 🤘

I mean, he might have been teetering on the edge of insufferably-pleased-with-himself until he opens the door and Hey! Its some buddies who came over for the We're Making A Metal Cover Of Africa party! And after that I'm just glad that somebody gets to live in the Wyld Stallyns Utopia timeline.

This made me laugh a lot so thanks. It sounded like a radio dj doing a William-Shatner style interpretation of the song. I also really enjoyed the YT comment that said "I don't bless the rains down in whatever the hell this is".

Just because I don't think I've seen it posted in these threads and I was recently plumbing my memory for it, I believe this was the absolute beginning of the Africa resurgence.

I would just like to say that the snare drum sound in the Wheezer cover ruins the song.

That was awesome. I especially loved the look on his face when his friends knocked on the door. I also think I have the exact same bass guitar as that guy.

A lot of things ruined the Weezer version, so much so that I've come full circle and think there's really only one thing that ruined it: Weezer themselves. Sidenote: it also convinced me that Weezer is a band that has never made music I like (I'm sure they're nice people though).

Also, after this led me wandering through various "previously on MetaFilter" links I hit a YouTube comment:
Can you believe they named an entire continent after this song?
And literally LOLed.

If it's headbanger classics you're after, Andy Rehfeldt has you covered.
