Using Century-Old Seaweed to Solve a Marine Mystery

Researchers from the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Stanford’s Hopkins Marine Station, the University of Hawai'i, and Duke University, have examined a collection of dried, pressed seaweeds dating back over 140 years to learn what ocean conditions in the bay were like in the early 19th century. The Monterey Bay Aquarium does a lot of great work. When I lived there I was a member, and if I thought I had a chance of being in California anytime soon I'd re-join. Also, their social feeds are EXACTLY what you need in these tough times.

Side note: Hopkins Marine Station and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are pretty tightly linked. They're literally next door to each other, I think.
