a hall of fame collecting the "most iconic" Tumblr posts

In addition to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list/data visualization (previously), there's the "world heritage post" Tumblr account which reblogs "the most iconic tumblr posts, new and old." Not yet (as far as I know) affiliated with UNESCO.
Selections include:
"pumpkin spice latte with 13 shots of espresso"
bad lipreadings of a moment in Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" video
"Will you come to my company holiday party and pretend to be my girlfriend"
"...like i understand where you’re coming from here but..."
"I’m 35 now. Also here’s the original doodle"
"oiseaux hits every vowel in the french alphabet and manages to only be pronounced with 2 goddamn syllables"
Japanese railway stationmasters that are cats
"why would you ask us, a narnia blog, this"

I would give up metafilter before tumblr. It is the disjointed rabid child of my heart. When my kids see me giggling, they ask suspiciously is it Tumblr again? And I try to explain and they roll their eyes at me.
Tumblr doesn’t indicate popularity well. Two friends run very popular in follower number blogs and they get as much volume on my dashboard as their other much smaller blogs. This I think a feature not a bug.

While Instagram goes out of its way to hide my posts from my followers, Tumblr gives me the opportunity for my art to be seen by a wide audience, even if the process is random and serendipitous.

I've been seeing this user's posts popping up in my feed recently and it always tickles me. But I didn't visit the pure uncut source page until you posted this. Just lost 90 minutes of my life scrolling, but no regrets.

Tumblr is the platonic ideal of social media sites--it's a way to get a lot of diversity in what mindless internet stuff you consume and can help get you out of the bubble you occupy. Plus it bankrupts giant-ass corporations.
Some good coding would be nice (it's a bit puzzling that in this day and age bandwidth is still a puzzle needing to be solved over there), but I spend more time on tumblr than anywhere else on the 'net. (That may be a personal failing.)

Tumblr has no algorithm. Everything is chronological and your dash is totally controlled by who's awake and posting when you're online. It's magical.
Anyway this is my favorite world heritage post. I followed the artist ages ago and she doesn't really post art anymore but I've learned a lot about architectural design and what it's like to be ex-Mormon.

brook horse, thanks to your link I found this post which led me to the hellside-hall-of-fame Tumblr account, another hall of fame blog ("a blog dedicated to the legendary posts of this hellsite")! Thank you!

And through that, I've found the amazing Delaware thread and an "All Star" filk that made me smile.

Ssssssshhhhhh! Tumblr died three years ago when they removed the porn, remember? No one goes there! Don't let anyone know we're still there or influencers will come back and ruin the place!

I handed my phone to my partner and told them to sing the All Star thread to me (I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket). It was magnificent.

The Jar Jar post legitimately got me out of an anxiety/depression pit one day and I couldn't tell anyone why.

I recently returned to tumblr this year after a long stint away and was surprised at how much porn was actually still being dropped there. Not a thing I go to Tumblr for but still easily accessible if that's your craving.

Oh man, the Tumblr + debacle deserves a post all of its own.

As someone who gets great enjoyment from the chaos of tumblr, I want to know what the intention is behind tumblr+. Does Auttomatic think that the kind of respectable people who have substacks would be interested in hanging their reputations on a tumblr URL? Do they think that current users are willing to pay for (illegal to profit from) gifs of Marvel movies and deliberately semi-incoherent sh*tposts?
Or do they think that artists and writers will want to put their work behind paywalls that presumably would not be reblogable, when reblogging is the main method of obtaining any kind awareness of one's work on the platform? Maybe there's some kind of workaround for the artists and writers, like putting a preview over a cut to locked content or a public tumblr promoting a locked tumblr. But either way, it seems to be somewhat in conflict with the main mechanism of the site.
