Studio Ibbini is an award-winning collaboration between Julia Ibbini and Stéphane Noyer creating works that intersect contemporary art, design and engineering. Julia is a visual artist and designer, with a background in graphics and collage. Stéphane is a computer scientist and maker, with an interest in computational geometry.

I follow Julia Ibbini on Instagram and the intricacy of their pieces never fails to make me stop and oooh and ahhhh at them.

Oh MY! Those are simply gorgeous.

I especially like this one with the corners dissolving and I'm curious about the bits that are actually detached - are they attached to a backing, or just loose?

I love the monochrome and nearly-monochrome works, but the few works with lots of color are lovely in a different way, and stand out among the collection.

Thank you so much for sharing this, jacquilynne - I'm delighted to have been introduced to these beautiful pieces!

She sometimes posts videos or stories to Instagram that show her gluing pieces together, kristi, so you might find something there that shows those particular pieces being assembled.

kristi, that dissolving one confused me at first. But I think we're seeing holes cut in a large white piece that extends beyond the edge of the image, not individual pieces on a white surface. There are many pieces on the main site that are made like that, especially with multiple layers stacked, frequently with the holes cut progessively smaller in lower layers to make a sort of stair-step bevel on the edges. Instagram doesn't show me enough resolution to make out those details, but the main site does.

It's like a mixture of Irish lace and Islamic tiles...
