For some reason I'm reminded of Greenpeace EU transport campaigner, Lorelei Limousin.

I've wondered how the Dodgers feel about having a player named Outman on their team.

Normally I appreciate these kinds of posts, but this is a bridge too low

Wait, is that a double decker? This works on so many levels

Much less extreme than getting stuck under a bridge: When I was in middle school, I rode the school bus, which was mostly on gravel roads. There was a several month period where there was road work going on, and first in deep gravel and then later in snow-on-deep gravel, the school bus would get stuck almost every day. It became totally routine. The bus would get stuck, the driver would honk or radio to the construction crew, and they'd drive over with a front-end loader, hook up a chain, and yank us out. It was exciting for the first three or so times, then it just became a thing where everyone would groan when you felt the bus get stuck because it meant a delay.

I feel bad for the kids that this happened on the way to an exam.

I had to look up Nominative Determinism. Guess I didn't make it to school the day that was taught.

It never really sank in for me until I had a surgeon called Dr Butchers (she didn't).

Accident involving your bus and a low bridge?

Does the sign on the lower left of the bus actually say "Driver's wanted"? I greatly fear it does.

Nitpick: that's clearly a bus chartered by a school. Does that make a school bus?
posted by kschang at 10:15 PM on May 19, 2023

Yes, because in the UK students ride ordinary public transit to school. There isn't any specific (yellow) school bus like there is in America and Canada. Wikipedia

State schools in rural areas will often have bus services specifically for students, but they're mostly contracted to private firms who use their own vehicles. If the BBC say that it's a school bus, then it only had schoolchildren on it.

I envision some UK civil engineer laughing whenever some city permits him to build a bridge too low for double decker busses.

Appears they've closed Rufford ford sadly. I'd propose Rufford residents replace their county council by electing Tyre extinguishers.

Yeah. I Googled her name as I suspected it was made up, as a joke for the story, but no, the BBC really has a journalist with that name and the third Google result for her name is this Wikipedia entry. An entire entry on one of her articles which was highly controversial due to its TERFy or at least TERF-adjacent content/perspective. Sigh.
