If I change for anyone, then I feel that I'm losing what 1969 brought me

Happy Pride Month! The 2019 film Stonewall Outloud [32m] is a documentary taken from the recordings of StoryCorps. Firsthand accounts are lip-synched and performed by current actors, interspersed with interviews and source material, bringing to life voices who witnessed the Stonewall Revolution and bridging the generations. I found it moving and affecting and I'm really happy to share it on this anniversary of the Revolution starting, 54 years ago.

American Experience's 2010 film Stonewall Uprising [1h21m] is masterful in what it does, spending over half its time explaining pre-Stonewall life in NYC, ratcheting up the tension until the rebellion feels inevitable. It sadly omits many POC voices from the story.

Pay It No Mind - The Life and Times of Marsha P. Johnson [55m] is a 2012 profile of the activist from before Stonewall until her death. So much grace and poise.

Sylvia Rivera: She Was More Than Stonewall [1h41m] is a quite exhaustive portrait of this bold woman who along with Johnson was formative in the early post-Stonewall trans community.

Finally, The Library Of Congress has an LGBTQ Studies portal, and their page on the Stonewall Uprising opens the door to a lot more further reading, if one is interested.

Thank you, hippybear for curating this great FPP. I only now clicked to see all these other links that I will watch, too! I just finished the first video and came to say thanks. The struggle is never-ending but these voices are what keeps us sane in the fight!!
