Excellent stuff, though you knew that already. Thanks, iconomy. Very nicely organized, and I especially like the broad range of styles. This one reminds me of Hirschfeld. But then, what doesn't? posted by soyjoy at 1:45 PM on June 29, 2004

Great! And good links, thomas j wise.
I really loved all the examples by Eric Gill on this page. so I looked him up, and it turns out he's the "Gill Sans" Eric Gill. More wonderful examples of his type/illumintion work here and here. posted by taz at 10:38 PM on June 29, 2004
Wonderful post, iconomy...and great in thread links too! There is some cool Shakespeare-related artwork at the Polish poster gallery too. posted by madamjujujive at 1:16 PM on June 30, 2004
I saw a copy of Charles and Mary Lamb Tales From Shakespeare in a nearby antique store, and really liked the pictures in that one. Unfortunately, I've looked through a few versions of the tales unline and they don't have the illustrations with them.
I've been trying to keep myself from buying it, but I might fail.
I really liked the Eric Gill pictures, too. Nice stuff. posted by bragadocchio at 5:17 PM on June 30, 2004
