Cat-Scan.com is one of the strangest sites I've seen in some time. I have no idea how these people got their cats wedged into their scanners, or why. posted by Stan Chin (111 comments total)

Cat-scan.com isn't a real site. The link went to a flikr account. In any case, my cats turn the scanner on and scan themselves all the time--the scanner is between the desk and the window. We randomly find scanned cat-bellies and cat-feet about once a month. posted by whatgorilla at 12:47 AM on July 14, 2007

You see? I forgot to italicize the quote. Should've waited til I was fully asleep. But it won't be long. All this cat stuff is putting me to sleep pretty fast. posted by flapjax at midnite at 1:42 AM on July 14, 2007
Sad that this got posted and I learned about cat-scan.com and that cliffyb (yes, that cliffyb) was in charge of it about 12 hours after I met the guy. Would have been a good conversation-starter. :(
Oh well.

Would anyone mind, actually, if I took this opportunity to say how much I love Metafilter? I've watched all of these Cat-Scan posts go by, but this is the first time I've been a real-live mefite. In just six months, I've made friends (online and off), made connections with people I'd never have met otherwise, had lots of great discussions and arguments, and laughed a lot.

Couldappen! My scanner has a button that my cat could easily step on if she was also on the glass.
But, I don't leave the lid up. So she has to open the lid, then climb on it and push the button. But sometimes the computer is off, so she has to boot it up. Occasionally, the USB cable is unplugged because I have my card reader plugged in, so she has to plug it back in. But she doesn't do that very often, mostly because she is so fat she can hardly jump onto the couch, let alone the desk. Also, whenever I mention that she needs to scan herself more often, she just glares at me and says "fuckin' MetaFilter!" posted by The Deej at 8:22 AM on July 14, 2007

I've never stuck my cats into the scanner.

Hi all,
The anniversary post compelled me to post my first message to MeFi. I signed up for an account in 2004, but I've been a lurker since 2002, when I was forced to sit on the bench and wait for membership to open up.
I've read so many comments I feel like I know you all already. Thanks for the years of entertainment and insightful commentary posted by JayG at 10:48 AM on July 14, 2007 [2 favorites]

OK, I confess that I am feeling extremely supercrappy about my plans to attend the MeFi Birthday Party falling through (mods, please delete my 'maybe' from the RSVP list) and I just wanted to take it all out on Stan "Gold Star" Chin and the Scanned Cats (in the words of Dave Barry, a GREAT name for a rock band). I apologize, and I will understand if I get ZERO shoutouts from the party. posted by wendell at 3:04 PM on July 14, 2007

Bah. gleuschk showed up, and shadowkeeper pops in one in a while too (especially when there's a link here to something he's done, which is regularly). Once a MeFite, always a MeFite. posted by stavrosthewonderchicken at 6:00 PM on July 14, 2007
