It correctly pegged me as a man, but then I've got all this excess manliness lying around, so probably it smelled something. posted by middleclasstool at 2:33 PM on November 4, 2008

It somehow believes my blog is not in English. Sure, my grammar might be off sometimes, but it's all in English. posted by tommasz at 2:45 PM on November 4, 2008
honestly, that's the kind of test that it needs to be able to pass, since she indentifies herself as a woman on the site. posted by shmegegge at 2:45 PM on November 4, 2008
It got me wrong. Apparently, I need to talk about sweater stuffers and snuggle puppies more often. posted by Cool Papa Bell at 2:45 PM on November 4, 2008

This is kind of an oldie, isn't it? And if its own poll is to be believed, it's only right half of the time. Given that the odds are 50/50 anyway, that's kinda sad. posted by katillathehun at 2:49 PM on November 4, 2008 [1 favorite]
It puts too high a weight on keywords, which is mentioned at one point in the blog. True in general that linux/videogame/etc is mainly male, but it's also something that I don't need an analyzer to tell me. posted by Lemurrhea at 2:49 PM on November 4, 2008

Wait, would that make you sound more masculine or even more feminine? Because all us real men* are calling them "yabbos".
It says my blog is written by a man. Which, despite my MeFi nickname, is...not the correct conclusion. posted by thomas j wise at 3:47 PM on November 4, 2008
It thinks I'm a man. I think I allude to being a female quite frequently, and my posts are signed with my real, feminine name, so you'd think my site would be a gimmie. Guess not. posted by LiliaNic at 3:49 PM on November 4, 2008

What's the overall percentage of men to women-run blogs anyway?
It's apparently only right 56pc of the time; if there's a disproportionate number of men, you could easily achieve that sort of accuracy by just coming back 'male' every time.
Or, slightly more sophisticated, you could instead just do a coin-toss of sorts, not even looking at the site but just returning 'male' or 'female' using the same odds for each toss that represent the overall male/female ratio. That ought to give you better than 50/50 overall, I'd imagine. (Although stats were never my strong suit.) posted by Kadin2048 at 4:07 PM on November 4, 2008
Heh. It guessed I'm a man... but so does your average Interneter. Ah well. posted by limeonaire at 4:14 PM on November 4, 2008
Damn, 445. That's a seriously sweet post vise you've got there. I'm jealous. posted by stet at 4:34 PM on November 4, 2008
I come up as a man, often, and usually by a landslide. It was interesting, but something I've largely come to expect. It was a different engine, though. I ought to try this one, being that it's an FPP, and maybe next time I'll do it before commenting. posted by six-or-six-thirty at 5:15 PM on November 4, 2008
It said all three of mine were written by a man. I, unlike Palin, am prepared to show medical records proving my lovely feminine mystique.
I think perhaps it's looking for keywords like shopping or shoes or some other sexist nonsense. posted by dejah420 at 5:29 PM on November 4, 2008
We think http://www.metafilter.com is written by a man
I tried my various blogs (all of which are written by me, a woman). I even tried subpages. The analyzer thinks my content is written for a man, except for a single page about one of my ebooks (Discover Your Inner Entrepreneur for Moms). posted by acoutu at 6:06 PM on November 4, 2008

It thinks my blog in which I basically discuss preganancy and post pregnancy and post a stupid number of pictures of my kid - wombquake.com - is written by a man.
