Ask MeFi post: Sewing More than Fabric
This review says Schmetz needles don't fit in the Singer, so that's something to check if you don't want to use Singer needles.

Yesterday I realised (was told) that the date is (like π-day a week earlier) mnemonic: Trisomy 21 . . . 3/21. Inspiring and fuck yeh as Madison Tevlin and the messaging is, I think often of young Liam who was born in 2016 with an extra chr.21 but was too small to have the heart surgery required by his atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD). The problem couldn't be repaired until he'd gotten big enough and strong enough for the pediatric cardiologist to use their smallest... [more]

Ask MeFi post: What to do with a lot of naga jolokia chili peppers
*pulls up chair and sits down*

Okay. A basic point about preserving things without refrigeration first. Unless you have a pressure canner, you're going to be limited to an extent; if a food is high in acid, then you can easily can it on your stovetop using the "water bath" method (this is dead easy -- get mason jars, the kind with the two-part lid, put the food in, put the lid on the jar, and then boil the jar for a certain period of time). If a food is low... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Boogers, be gone — how?
I sometimes use a cotton swab to put a thin coat of Aquaphor on the inside of my nostrils. In the winter especially it helps keep my skin and boogers from flaking off and out. The Aquaphor itself can get a little runny if you put too much on, so you might do it at night instead.

Ask MeFi post: How to get her to stop licking her fingers?
This kind of thing is so hard. I think you will need to find a substitute behavior; you could try different types of fidgets and different things to chew on. I might also seek out an appointment with an OT (maybe her pediatrician can refer you?) if that’s feasible in terms of insurance/cost.

Anecdote:
My kid was chewing on the neck of her shirts, which would damage the fabric, then she’d refuse to wear the shirts because it made it uncomfortable. We tried... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Small items going missing
When something goes missing, I'd imagine your first step would be to ask (in an informational, not blameful way) _anyone_ who might have useful information (e.g. other family members) "hey, any idea where X might've ended up?" That feels like a reasonable approach to extend here as well: "Hey, I can't for the life of me find my cutting board; it's wood, shaped like a cat... does that ring a bell, might it have gotten put away somewhere weird?" MeFi post: Anchor's Away
I started home brewing after a visit to Anchor. I had visited larger breweries and the cutting edge automated massive equipment made me think it was impossible to make good beer at home.

Ask MeFi post: What should be my first superhero comic?
If you want to tackle Marvel at all, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is an excellent run that’s fully collected. It's very newbie friendly, though it doesn’t shy away from incorporating lore. It tells really fun stories in interesting ways and is a great counterbalance to the grimdark side of superheroes you’ve been reading.

Ask MeFi post: Garage Cabinetry/Shelving
Harbor Freight have cabinets in steel, including some full height ones that might suit your needs (brand name Yukon). And r/HarborFreight has opinions on what is worthwhile to buy from there, though they're quite, um, enthusiastic. I'm sure they're of okay quality, it's hard to get cabinets wrong, but given the price point they might not wear as well as a better brand. They look garagey but will certainly put a door between you and your clutter.

Ask MeFi post: Making Fun of a Political Figure - Risk/Reward Question
No one can possibly answer that question without knowing the extent at which you plan to operate this "business". Are you going to pay to have logos designed, a website created, and products manufactured? Or are you just going to print up a couple t-shirts and tell your friends? And how obvious a parody will this be? And even if it's obvious, is there a potential that you would have to deal with being sued for slander or defamation or something like that?

Ask MeFi post: Help me understand sterilising glass bottles for cordial
None of the methods you described will sterilize your bottles, but that's ok because you don't need to. Nothing related to food needs to be sterilized. You may need to sanitize the bottles; it's probably good practice especially if you're handing them out as a gift, but given that cordial has a lot of stuff in it that makes it inhospitable to the kind of bugs that make you sick (sugar and acid are both preservatives), this would be to have them stay tasting good as long as... If you're looking at the computer monitor with bare eyes, you're getting everything the display is emitting. If you put any type of glasses in between your eyes and the display, there's *some* filtering going on. So anyone trying to convince you that somehow glasses are less healthy to view computer screens with unless they're somehow special filtery glasses is trying to sell you a load of hoohey.

Ask MeFi post: white new england cheese
It looks like cheesemakers in New England never added coloring to their cheddar to account for seasonal variations in natural color so historically people tend to prefer white cheddars as being local. Elsewhere cows ate more grass, got more beta carotene and the cheese itself ended up with a natural orange hue that was standardized with annatto.

More detail here.

Headline is misleading, again. The intervention wasn't an actual colonoscopy -- it was an INVITATION to get a colonoscopy, which not everyone who was invited actually did by a super-long shot.

So the takeaway isn't really "colonoscopies don't work," it's "a lot of people won't get one even if invited to do so." Which I get. I should get one and so very, very don't want to.

The key here is less the specific combination of ingredients, and more the QUALITY of those ingredients.

Go and buy the absolute most kick-ass eggs you can find. Farmer's market, organic, free-range, straight out of the chicken's butt that morning eggs.

The same goes for olive oil, salt, pepper, white wine vinegar, and any other additions you want to make (mustard, chives, chilli, lemon zest etc. etc.)

Basically: find the BEST eggs and olive oil available to you.
