I'm gonna lose it in about ten seconds.

Hmm: http://homepage.mac.com/darkle/kitties/ ? Who is this mysterious 'darkle', the font of such wonderful kitteny goodness? All I can find that is definitely linked to him/her is this Intermission music...
God, that's brilliant, though. Kittens in motion are so light they pretty much float and hover above the ground anyway, making for some great gravity-free photos. I wonder if these are outdoor cats or ferals on a farm? I've never seen a cat willingly wade into water (like one in one of the shots) . . . then again, with the right motivation (fish), it could happen.

The calico photos remind me of my cat Popcorn, who died recently as well...a bad time for metafilterian's kitties. :(
My girlfriend has always been dubious abut the validity of metafilter, but this site redeems it for her.

I believe darkle is darukaru, judging from the fact that darukaru once linked to a mirror he'd made of the same set of pictures in a MetaTalk thread, possibly since deleted, that rebeccablood had posted about Sex Kitten aka oralse.cx, the famous parody of goatse.cx.
I had wondered, onscreen in that oralse.cx thread, from where the picture had come--citing an email exchange I'd had with the oralse.cx site owner, one Antwon, who wrote and told me he'd gotten the Sex Kitten picture from a a set posted on a University of Indiana student's homepage some years back.
Darukaru then surprisingly, and obligingly, posted a link to a mirror he had made of the original set of pictures--the very same set as Antwon had written about and riffola has just linked here--and he has reposted it about three times upon my mentioning it one time or another in MetaTalk. The link above is to one of the later repostings he made.
He reposted it at least once because the previous URL had gone down and I had wondered, onscreen, if the pictures were gone for good. As it turned out, he'd moved them to the evilsupermop page, which I notice is now down. So, I suspect he has reposted them again, seeing as they are both homepage.mac.com URLS.
In other words, this is not at all new to these pages, although it is not exactly a double post, as it never was a front page post. By the way, I seem to recollect realizing long ago that Antwon of Sex Kitten fame is or was a MetaFilter member, although I long since forgotten the why and of how I figured that out.

When I was a toddler, we had a cat that would wade through our paddling pool rather than go around (and thus adding maybe a metre to its journey), and had also been known to get into a running bath.

Five fresh fish, my grandfather used to refer to that kind of hyper-relaxed sleeping cat as "a perfectly good dead cat." It's a phrase that sticks with one.

Thanks, y2karl. Somehow, though, as I was reading your long explanation above, I kept seeing it in your traditional format of mouse-over text. "Why doesn't y2k's text disappear after a few seconds," I kept thinking ;-)
My first cat was a Maine coon, and he was the smartest, craftiest, craziest animal I've ever known. He was soooo cool. Grew a huge lion's mane around his neck in the Wintertime. He wasn't fond of water, though, although he'd surely go out in the rain to track a female in heat.

Well, one more comment--this one on topic: my memory sucks. Here is the thread where Darukaru said kitty.jpg is great. But can you handle a whole page of kittens?! to everyone's delight and then commented later, The front page can't handle all the kitties. But if you wanna prove me wrong, feel free to post it. ;)... I seem to conflated this with the Metatalk thread on oralse.cx com, my email exchange with darukaru and his subsequent mirrors of the original homocidal techs page. I think. At any rate, he gets the credit of first posting it, albeit in a comment in the blue. It would have been untraceable from Search but all the same at least four or five here recalled it. At any rate, it's time for me to send out for the piracetam, I guess.
