Photographer Ami Vitale was allowed exclusive access into the Wolong National Nature Reserve managed by the China Conservation and Research Centre for the Giant Panda as it trains pandas to be released into the wild.

Why are there people dressed as trees? I get why there are people dressed as pandas, but trees?

The fact that actual science is being done doesn't absolve the inherent creepiness of this photo.

I find those photos really creepy. Like some kind of dysfunctional dystopia where anonymous panda-people bully and cajole the less-agile to do their bidding.
Of course, the panda rentals are not just about money. China also uses panda-dimplomacy to express its displeasure.
