Not your usual Food Prep short video: To promote the new hot dogs at Norway's Statoil Convenience Stores, they showed how to put one together - using an 8.5 ton excavator.*
BONUS CONTENT: On an Austrian chat show, a demonstration of a better way to open a difficult milk carton... sort of.
*trivial trigger warning: he puts ketchup on the hot dog (which I know some people really hate!)

I really don't want this to turn into a dumping ground for funny videos*, but if you're going to drop any here, I wish you'd keep it to food-related videos... like Paul McCartney making mashed potatoes.

* Do I LOOK like Bob Saget?

Outrage in YouTube comments seems to be more about the lettuce than the ketchup. The latter is really common in Northern Europe.

Also, the guys in the video are from Finland. And while it's a Norwegian company and a Norwegian ad agency, the video is produced and directed by Swedes. The latter is also really common in Northern Europe.

(The excavator looks like a Cat 300-something, so might be from anywhere. Also really common etc.)

I put the video description into translate and it came out officially Norwegian. But then, this monolingual American rube usually gets everything with other languages wrong.

Yeah that lettuce makes it one froofy-froofy hot dog. Where's the relish? Chopped onion?

Chopped onion?

After the ketchup, of course, at 0:57.

Yeah, it's a Norwegian ad for a Norwegian company, and the description is in Norwegian (pølse = hot dog in Norwegian and Danish) so no problem there. But the guys in the video speak Finnish and have distinctly Finnish names. Maybe they're trying to maximize the viral spread? Or maybe it's just some ironic hipster thing.

That was brilliant! I love seeing extreme concentration and care put into doing something very silly, possibly plus the mismatch of scales. It felt a lot like watching the food prep in the "hamster eats a tiny burrito"-style videos, which reliably crack me up.

Also, these guys need to team up with the fruit chefs one thread down.

Or maybe it's just some ironic hipster thing.
Being Finnish as the next hipster trend? I really hope you're right, that would be brilliant fun to watch.

I think this should be the dumping ground for videos of people doing unusual tasks with heavy machinery.

The milk carton thing is one of my favourite videos of all time.

Where I'm from, "tube steak" has an altogether different meaning so this made me apprehensive at first

Anyways, if I still used Flickr I would create a collection called "Opening Things" and document my daily - DAILY - difficulty with the crappy design and manufacturing of things that need to be opened by consumers. These days, every time I go to open something - milk carton, bag of peanuts, bottle of vitamins, box of tissues, ANYTHING - I expect it to go badly, and it usually does. wtf

Ketchup on a hot dog? BLASPHEMY!

In the latest news, the Supreme Court officially legalized putting ketchup on a hot dog in all 50 states. In his dissent, Scalia was quoted that this would begin "a slippery slope toward Ranch Dressing, and nobody wants to see that". He also declared it "in total violation of the constitution's original intent", while the majority opinion by Ruth Bader Ginsberg noted that "hot dogs weren't even invented until 1870".
