Rich Man's Castle - A Guardian piece which suggests the introduction of land-zoning to ensure that all the prime pieces of land aren't snapped up for luxury, new build homes and are instead designated for affordable housing. With UK house prices on an ever-upward trajectory, it's unlikely that developers would embrace such a move. At least, not when there are masterpieces to construct.

Why should prime land be given to affordable housing? I didn't think a nice view was a civil right. You want it, you pay for it.

Houses are one of the prime ways for the too-rich to redistribute their excess money. They're endlessly expensive and the more high end you go, the more artists and craftspeople you're supporting.

I don't think my sarcasm shone through. The age of the artist and craftsperson coming together to create a thing of beauty have long gone, unless you've got £25m to spare.

I tried to find links to some really daft houses but came up short. Anyone got any pointers?

They should make Economics 101 a mandatory course in high school.
