It's not a live album

Carla Bley and her jazz band were in Europe in 1977 and they stopped by a studio in Munich to record 40-odd minutes of music [YT playlist] which was released in 1978 as The Carla Bley Band - European Tour 1977. The 4 pieces on the recording are fun, inventive, surprising, and sometimes even thrilling. I'm honestly surprised this post hasn't gotten much love. For anyone wanting to dip in a toe, I recommend Wrong Key Donkey. That's the track that hooked me into Bley, and exploring her output in her various band incarnations across the decades has been a lot of fun for me.

I saw her on 120 Minutes once, opposite Sonic Youth, I think, & (hazy memory) at the end she played a couple songs with Sonic Youth & it was all weird & wonderful, & I’ve always meant to get ahold of some of her music, and simply haven’t for lack of effort. I need to rectify this.

Or maybe I’m out of my mind & it was an episode of Night Music. It was the 80’s & I blame drugs. Wrong Key Donkey is indeed v cool.
