Gettin' Bi

Here it is: my joyous summer celebration of bisexual, pansexual, and fluid characters on tv! I hope you enjoy.
Vid creator thingswithwings adds context on selecting characters, canons, and depictions of bisexuality in television and movies for the video on their own blog. Previously on fanvids: [1], [2], [3].

Eh, I've been meaning to bring it here for like three months. I love fanvids because of what they say as well as what they communicate, and this one is really settling--plus the commentary from tfw's Dreamwidth has some interesting notes about representation, ranging from fairly obvious racial and gender trends (they couldn't find a single black bi* man to feature, but apparently had scads of brunette white women) to a thoughtful discussion about how you identify characters to showcase in a fanvid like this when no one seems to be able to use the word bisexual on screen.

(More on fanvids from me later this week, actually.)

About the only character I can add to the list in terms of bi men of color on TV is Lil Papi Evangelista from Pose, which might have been after this film. Feature cinema has Kevin from Moonlight.

Star Trek Discovery gave us Empress Georgiou, which for me was the least WTF in a season of WTF, and it's a throw-away take.

Cool!

I didn’t see Game of Thrones’ Prince Oberyn Martell. Did I just miss it?

Or would GoT not qualify as it’s on cable?

Ah, just read on their blog where they didn’t include non-North American shows except for Doctor Who. Carry on.

I don't watch much tv, so I didn't recognize anyone in this. I do like the song, and enjoyed watching all the bi people being bi and doing normal tc things. I am glad to see that there's apparently some positive bi representation on TV. Do y'all know who all these characters are?

This is so nice!

Would it be possible to get the link fixed so it doesn't start at the timestamp for the end of the video?

There is a rec list with explanations of many of the shows the characters come from on the "author's blog" piece! Not all of them, to be sure, but the shows discussed are those with significant bi characters, with author's notes about the shows and who is or isn't likely to enjoy them appended. One of them is the show that the song was written for.

Personally I would enthusiastically encourage anyone who is not familiar with Rosa Diaz to get acquainted with her because she is a goddamn delight.

Nothing from The Magicians?

I'm with you, Fuchsoid, but A) you can't include everything, and the creator's post includes a lengthy discussion of the care that they put into what is in the vid, which is worth reading. Multifandom vids like this get "Why not [x]" complaints a lot, and it's better to focus on what *is* there and the care that's gone into it, because something will always be left out.

B) While it's been hinted at before, the major bisexuality-relevant plot events on the Magicians are extremely recent, and I think it'd be more likely to be included in a similar vid if it was made a year from now

Cookiebastard, the song is from the show Crazy Ex Girlfriend, when one character realizes he's bi and comes out to his employees - youtube link to scene (out of context, the reactions of the employees seems pretty negative, but, they're mainly reacting to the TMI factor of the boss calling a staff meeting about his sex life, and also it's kind of a recurring trope of the show that when some of the characters burst into song willingly, others get sucked into the musical number unwillingly).

It's so good to see noted beloved asshole of my heart, Joe Macmillan, again, however briefly. And also Janelle and Tessa. And I was waiting for the character who appears in the end button the whole time, so that was satisfying. This is really cute! I love to live in a world where there are so many bi characters on regular tv there had to be a whittling down process, something I hoped for but never expected.

John Constantine shows up at the perfect points. 😀 This was delightful and I'm glad I saw it. Thanks for posting!

My additions were not in the spirit of "why not?" But here are some newer additions that might expand the discussion of intersectional bi+ people.
