The rare and mysterious Deepstaria jellyfish looks like a cross between a plastic bag and a Victorian specter (with resident isopod).

Gee whiz... nobody's ever excited about my resident isopod.

Came for the jellyfish (Hello, Charlie MacCharlie! Yeah, I made that up. ;D ) Stayed for the sighs and gasps from four or more scientists. Yes, this IS awesome!

I love videos like this, not just for the cool creatures, but also for the nerds nerding out over the cool creatures.

the shapes it made surprised me. I didn't expect them to have such specific motor(?) abilities (like towards the beginning when it raises part of itself up so high like a cliff).

Just back from a mid-Atlantic beach visit where, thanks to stormy conditions offshore, there were many oddities on the beach like blue dots, velella and man o’ war. Those things are creepy, but oh my that thing in the video was in a whole other universe of weird. Plus that isopod was straight-up Alien nightmare material.
Loved the science folks’ commentary. What is it thinking, indeed?

I'm feeling unsure about how big it is. They mention measuring it, but don't give the result.
Other sources mention the diameter of the circle as a meter or as two feet, but this is pretty vague considering how much it changes shape. Anyone have something more specific? I'm wondering how tall it is when it's looking like a ghost.

The article from the first link describes it as being "the size of a trash can" but that's a curiously variable object to serve as a measurement benchmark; it gives at best some idea of order of magnitude.

According to the tech specs, the lasers are mounted 10cm apart.
So at the beginning (:25), ~15x45cm, at its largest (4:25), ~80x160cm.
