Here are the "National Costumes" brought to you by Buzzfeed. What costume best epitomizes one's culture and nation, while also showing off one's abs? And who will be the most beautiful man? Spoiler alert:

As of today, Mister Global 2021-2022 is Miguel Ángel Lucas Carrasco of Spain.

Do you wish to see the national costumes in their full motion picture glory on the runway? Here is a YouTube link.

I will never forget my German born high school French teacher drawing the European perception of Americans back in the late 80s. It was a cartoonishly broad shouldered, skinny legged man in a business suit with a giant football helmet on.

This is giving me life. Thank you so very very much.

(Also, was the Canadian one so bad it didn't make the list? I wonder.)

And Last but Not Least, USA

Never has a sentence been more true.

Sexy Mountie. We all know it's Sexy Mountie, we don't necessarily need to see Sexy Mountie.

I think the vast majority of these would get me right back into the Street Fighter franchise.

It's good to see that the Cosplay of Nations is a coed event.

Britain's entry looks like a man who takes care of things for a very posh family.

Cuba's guy looks great, but I also wonder if the airline lost his costume and he had to rely on his own suitcase.

The USA one looks like a guy you have to defeat in a 1990s platformer that was never localized in America.

I'm leaning towards "somewhere, a JRPG is missing its antagonist."

For all the Trumpiness of that USA costume he's the gayest thing ever on stage. Big Village People energy, perhaps if Hawk from Buck Rogers were an honorary member. Also there's a lot of skin and muscle on display, definitely thumbs up here. Not sure about the silver lamé diaper/codpiece though.

I like everyone who looks like a fighting game character and/or a wrestler while Britain is just "I dunno, a suit, I guess?"

I don't know what is happening with France but I feel like I'm into it.

I like Spain and India for their "sexy royals" energy and Dominican Republic for the sexy pirate Halloween costume (zero hate about any of this, to be clear).

Hong Kong and Japan are having fun with this.

Indonesia is a literal beast and I think that's my favorite.

Speaking as an immigrant to Canada who is attracted to men: the LumberBro aesthetic just isn’t that exciting, sorry. Canada certainly has, in actuality, many other constituent cultures that have led to different sub-cultural masculine aesthetics that could be drawn upon. But, well, racism (plus the whole Francophone/Anglophone split, to a lesser extent), so they probably didn’t get considered as sufficiently “Canadian”. (Assuming anyone in Canada knew of the existence of this competition and even considered an entry?)

we don't necessarily need to see Sexy Mountie.
This is quite incorrect.

I keep vacillating between outright hating Macau and wanting to write an entire cyberpunk knovel with Macau as the main character.

He channeled Macau's money power. Mr. Cuba, was like, I've killed in a dozen capital cities.

That was a hoot, I liked all of it.... The guys who were just good-looking guys in simple clothes, the guys who looked embarrassed to be there, the guys who were probably professional performers, the guys who could outshine a mummers parade all by themselves. Special mention to Indonesia, who should be starring in an MCU movie.

I did lol at the UK entry. Hot butler indeed. Should have gone with sexy Duke of Suffolk.

Wasn’t prepared for so much male hotness this early in the morning. *fans face*

And now that I’ve actually clicked the link, there’s some uncomfortable exoticization going on in some of those costumes. (Definitely not all - some are quite fabulous!) So, par for the course for international beauty pageants I guess.

We watched the whole video last night and it was quite entertaining. Nicely paced. I was impressed with the particular kind of masculinity that seems to be the Mister Global aesthetic. Strong and well built but not swole. And with the firm confidence of a fireman you trust will rescue your cat from a tree. The costumes are all quite functional too, many tailored very well to look good while walking. Definitely a lot of good butts framed in trousers.

The Macau costume was.. really odd? It's a translucent shapeless plastic over his bare skin. He looked like he was wearing a full-body condom. Only not sexy.

- For a second, I thought that Peru's loincloth was censorily pixelated, but no, that's the way that it actually looks, I guess.

- Japan: "We can talk about it after I've had my bath."

- UK is so ready to get out of the City and go clubbing.

- Cuba wants to know how you doin'.

- So many of these dudes armed and ready to fight; Macau just wants to hop on his bike and split this joint.

- So, if you've watched The Boys, you remember how superteam member Starlight had to put on a ridiculously skimpy costume at one point? USA is from the alternate timeline where Homelander had to do that.

In general, this is like one of those DC/Marvel things where they do Superheroes from Many Lands, only a) with a fine eye for detail and b) enough guts to give the people who prefer men some fanservice.

I, too, was piqued by Peru's pixilated paillettes.

I'm fairly sure it's based on a protea, the national flower of SA. (Sorry BlueBlueElectricBlue!)
