That was a great speech.

Epic, and 100% correct.

That is amazing. The fucking courage.

Fantastic. I just hope he doesn't now find himself the target of pissed-off police officers.

Mingus is a big damn hero twice over.

Two-minute read, and two-minute video. Worth a read and/or a watch, 5 minutes from now you'll be glad you did.

FWIW, that's the slogan of the Socialist Rifle Association, an organization I've worked with. What Mr. Mingus did was braver than picking up a gun. He stepped in to save a life, not worrying about if the person was a criminal or a bystander. Kudos to him. If you haven't taken a 'Stop The Bleed' class, PLEASE DO SO. You don't get to choose when an emergency happens.

A hundred kudos to this worker. The biggest barrier is not the skills, but the willingness to touch a stranger - or even someone you know casually - with their human body fluids all over the place. It's the same with Narcan or choking or CPR, because blood is, well, supposed to be in the body.

(As someone who does teach this and goes, uh, slightly off book, this is my time of year for cheap supplies.)

Abolition is the only way forward.

Like the chief said, "Great work" -- though maybe I mean it a little more. Honestly, Mr. Mingus was brave to step up on someone else's Worst Day, and brave again to just be honest with the police.

colbaltnine, which supplies in particular are cheap right now?

Mr. Mingus' story is almost word-for-word the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Thank you so much for this post, Ahmad Khani! I'm in Europe and couldn't get to the Mother Jones site without accepting cookies. Here's an interview and more info on how Mr. Mingus saved a life.

I think cobaltnine is saying they use a lot of fake blood.
posted by echo target at 7:46 AM on October 17, 2022 [1 favorite]

Yeah, I go 'off book' with my homemade fake leg with tubing and a pump and fake blood when my crowd and space is appropriate. The cost for medical training supplies is a scam.

Oh, man, that's awesome! :7) I've been meaning to take the Stop The Bleed class but it's never offered in my area. Is the online version useful?

(I came upon a bad car accident half a dozen years ago and was surprised that I didn't freeze, and remembered most of what I had learned over the years -- but I was lucky that the passenger wasn't hurt worse. It made me want to learn more!)
