Cinnamoroll is currently in the lead in the 38th annual Sanrio Character Ranking, and was the reigning champion for the past three years. Will Cinnamoroll hold onto this position, or will current second place-holder Pompompurin take the crown? Perhaps there will be a dark horse victory from Gudetama or Aggretsuko? Voting is open until May 26, 5PM (Japan Standard Time).

Chococat is the cutest even though Sanrio has cruelly and untimelily ripped him from us.

Otherwise Aggretsuko. Gudetama gives me an anxiety since he is a foodstuff.

This is as good a reminder as any to share the most important Sanrio information I know, about Hello Kitty. No, it’s not that Hello Kitty is canonically not a cat. Rather, consider that her canonical height and weight are “five apples tall” and “weighs as much as three apples.” Do the math, and the inescapable conclusion here is that Hello Kitty has a low enough density that a gentle breeze presents a very real threat.

There are a lot of Sanrio characters I didn't recognize on the voting list! I guess I haven't been keeping current.

You can vote for Chococat (number 59) but I didn't see Deery-Lou. I also voted for Aggretsuko and Kuromi and would've voted for Nyago if he hadn't been memory-holed.

Kuromi (I'm choosing the characters 黒実, lit. black/beautiful) leads a tricycle bousouzoku and has liberated the punisher skull. Happy to learn about this role model today.

Shout out to the depressive-cute San-X stars I will always love best, Kogepan (Mr. Burnt Bread), Afro-Ken and Sad Panda - (Tarepanda). I have this big plushie and a stuffed Kogepan also that were gifts from Japan and I would kill to get my godson more of these types of things, but Sanrio doesn't produce those.

Strictly talking Sanrio, it's gotta be Aggretsuko for me.
