Gay Recruiting: The pay is awful, but the benefits are sublime.

The article behind that leading headline is a goldmine of feel-bad quotes but this one I think is oddly enlightening about the core competition in play: "Every year GSA clubs snag tens of thousands of new recruits by creating a warm and inviting 'safe space' for the socially awkward and 'oddball' kids just looking for somewhere to belong. This, is, of course, the traditional role of Christians in the schools."

I recently got “treated” to a clip of Alx Jones screaming about how he just wants to be left alone by Antifa, gays, trans people, and “leftist Jews.” And I was like “Dude, have you ever thought if leaving those people out of your weird fantasies? They probably won’t make you feel bad by telling you you’re an asshole, then.” Of course, he’d still owe $1.6B for harassing Sandy Hook parents, but he could go for low-hanging options.

I used to follow economist Tyler Cowan's blog for the same reason this website exists, to know what the other side was thinking. I stopped because I realized it was affecting my thinking in a way I didn't like, especially reading the comments, but also the blog posts themselves. They were written in a kind of enigmatic way that would insinuate and hint at things that Cowan wouldn't say directly (but the commenters would say).

Another thing I would do, and still do, is skim all the headlines of the Financial Times, the Economist, and the Wall Street Journal to get an idea of what the investor class was saying.

This one is interesting because it doesn't editorialize at all - just a list of the day's headlines, selected according to who knows what criteria. (Does it say on their site how they choose which articles to highlight?) So it's just a taste, unless you click through of course. Interesting that they only show the last two days, you have to check back every day.

Is it like the army where I sign up for 4 years and then re-enlist? If I’m not ready for that kind of commitment, how about 2 weekends per month and 2 weeks per year?

This, is, of course, the traditional role of Christians in the schools.

[Citation Needed] with only a single exception the "Christian" kids lead the charge of ostracising and bullying all the oddballs like me in school.

This is, traditionally, not how it works.

I've lived in San Francisco since '92, and I have found myself in the Castro, for a number of reasons, going to see a movie, shopping, eating, bookstores, getting a drink, you know, the usual reasons to be in a neighborhood. But there has never been a time when anyone ever approached me, with a "special message" that they wanted to share, handed me a pamphlet that could change my life, etc. Is it just me, that I've never seen any recruitment?

This one is interesting because it doesn't editorialize at all - just a list of the day's headlines, selected according to who knows what criteria.

Their newsletter has a bit of cheeky editorial at the beginning that provides a little bit of framing. For example: "Greetings! In recent years, right wing media have had anti-college bias, especially as wokesterism has taken hold on many campuses. But the pro-Palestinian sentiments voiced on several colleges in the past 10 days have sent right wing media into overdrive against progressive voices in higher education. American Spectator is the latest outlet to join the growing chorus. “Hamas has given us an opportunity to rid our campuses of academic rot,” writes Bruce Bawer……"

Allsides is something I use to get a wide variety of opinions.

There problem i have with Allsides is that they don't differentiate between coverage and quality. So they'll tell you The Guardian has a left-wing bias and the Washington Times has a right-wing bias which sounds like they're equivalent. But The Guardian mostly sticks to factual reporting whereas The Washington Times prints a lot of garbage.

It's still useful, but problematic.

I won't be signing up myself but I certainly wish the gays every success with this year's drive.

While I do find some value in knowing what "the other side" is thinking, I feel genuinely worse off for having clicked through to a few of those stories.

in the case of coverage on trans people though, they're difficult to distinguish

Is it just me, that I've never seen any recruitment?

Two weeks ago a person tried to get me to go to his church while I was shopping for groceries. Then ten minutes later another person there would have, except the first person caught him to let him know I had already said no.

Back in college I was approached for church-related purposes several times.
