Lewis Black | Halloween Supercut [13m] is Lewis Black's own YouTube channel being very very Lewis Black about issues related to Halloween. If you need someone to rant amusingly for a while so you can feel better about the rants you have in your own mind, here's what you need.

I love Lewis Black in general, and goodness knows I don't usually manage a costume myself, but I don't really understand why he thinks adults dressing up takes away from children's enjoyment of the holiday. When I was a kid I enjoyed seeing grown-ups in costume on Halloween. Is it just the rise of "Sexy ____" costumes and adults-only Halloween parties? (Which apparently have a long history.)

I agree with him about candy corn, though.

Lewis Black is the definitive cure for... not being Lewis Black.

I'm sure he's a perfectly pleasant old man and that the performance is just a shtick, but I don't like his shtick. Too shouty and angry.

I love his shouty shtick, I hope I'm even 25% that funny when it's my turn to be a grumpy old man.

whenever I watch Lewis Black I'm worried he's about to have an aneurysm.

All that grumpy/angry performance must be healthy though, he looks good for a 75-year-old.

Like candy corn itself, a little bit of Lewis Black is all I need or want at a time. But boy it's a rush when it hits right. :7)

It is. (At least it was 20-ish years ago.)

In general comedians are more like "actors playing a character who's good at being funny", rather than "person who is funny just being funny on stage with a microphone."

Black has a weekly YouTube podcast where he talks about his views on life from the last week and then reads rants sent in by fans. He has strong views, but he's not just a full-on rant the entire time, and he really loves reading the rants sent in by others.

He went to school to study playwriting, and he has plays that go into production from time to time. Much like Sondheim he tends to turn up when there's a production someplace, although with a lot more glee because his work isn't very well known. I think, as a playwright, he takes delight in reading monologues written by others, especially if the writer has captured that specific Lewis Black Voice so he can channel the text effortlessly. It's pretty joyful when he gets one he really likes.

His comedy special about the pandemic, Tragically, I Need You, is a pretty good example of what he's like in long form. I'm very curious to see where his current hour ends up once he gets it finished. I saw an interview with him where he said that he had planned on doing a series of things to wind down his career but COVID upended that. So whatever he's giving us now, there is an expiration date on new material from him.

Lewis Black is the secret core of The Daily Show, his tenure there goes back to Craig Kilborn. He's been ranting there all the while.
