You Can't Hoot Without One

If it's the 3rd Saturday in June, it must be time for the National Hollerin Contest in Spivey's Corner, NC. Ever since the contest's earliest days, it tends to make the media's ears perk up. Hear and watch the many kinds of hollers, see last year's winner or buy a CD (featuring hollerin' legend O.B. Jackson.) Pr"eef"iously.

I didn't see the "eef" FPP when it came up the first time. I must teach myself to do this, to fill in those awkward silences.

Ah: a good holler!

I'd rather be in some dark holler
Where the sun don't ever shine
Than for you to be some other man's darling
When you ain't no longer mine

Awesome! Thanks. Time to get out the Hollerin' CD, which, to be honest, I don't listen to all that much.

My cousins went to school at Midway High School which at least at the beginning is where they hold the contest. Spivey's Corner is just a sign at an intersection: If you blink you'll miss it.

You don't GET too much more country than THAT area.

Nothing says "Good morning Neighbour , down the way and across the crick" like a signature holler.

My Neighbour's a good musket shot away from me so I gotta really belt it out. Goes like this ' Weeeeeeeyeeeeeeeepeeeeeeee' and then a high wistle.
