I hadn't seen these before, not until my son showed them to me a couple of weeks ago. Sharing is caring, and all that.

The G.I. Joe PSA parodies are hilarious, but the Daniel Johnston video is really neat, a song i'd not heard before.

Thanks.

Man. I love these.

Has anyone ever positively identified the dancehall track in "Reggae?" Googling around finds a million people claiming that it's "Inna De Bus" (or "In A De Bus") by Professor Nuts, and then a million more claiming it's NOT that song.

(I also see a bunch of people saying it's something by Shabba Ranks, but I have to believe that if it really were Shabba we would have identified the song by now.)

Even Wikipedia, which for all its faults is usually very good at tracking these things down, doesn't confirm the title, saying only that it's "rumored to be" the Professor Nuts track. And then the first comment on the Talk page is someone saying that it's not Professor Nuts and he doesn't know why everyone keeps saying that.

(Professor Nuts is SO my sock puppet's name...)

Obviously a listen to the track would settle the matter, but the song seems all but impossible to find.

I really wish this issue would get settled...I'd love a copy of the actual song. Moving on to a completely unrelated topic, my email address is listed in my profile. What a puzzling non-sequitor!

Maybe it's just because I'm Canadian, but #5 is absolute comedy gold as far as I'm concerned. "Holy cow I'm totally going so fast-- AHH! Fuck!" *thwack* Just kills me.

They're pretty hit and miss, I found a lot of them stupid. But #5, and to a lesser extent #19, #2 and #6 were also funny. #17 also had some amusement factor due to being just damn surreal.

Speaking of logs, I need to drop the Cosby kids off at the pool...

Ah, classic GI Joe PSAs. I still randomly mutter "Body Massage!" when the mood strikes me. And "Hey kids, I'm a computah!" When did those first make the rounds? 2003?

For some reason they are inextricably linked in my mind with Chris "Christmas" Rodriguez.

Five years is probably a forgiving enough interval here. I remember being annoyed at how difficult they could be to find in one place, back in the day—seemed like it varied with the weather and the bus schedule.

I still maintain that they're fucking wonderful, and its interesting what a cipher the damned things are on that front. Humor is a weird and subjective thing. I can't argue with the allegation that they're uneven, because they totally are, but the sheer bizarreness of the clips just kind of cascades when I watch them in sequence—I've ended up laughing and gasping for breath. Having a drink doesn't hurt.

I've had the same reaction to MST3K episodes, and to SA photoshop threads, and to digest strolls through YTMND memes: clicking along, kind of ho-hum, chuckles here and there, funny but not Funny, until suddenly something trips a threshold and it all falls together and I'm just dying, tears running down my cheeks with glee. These GIJOE spots have given me some of the best I-needed-that belly laughs I've ever had, despite being weird fucking things that I'm not surprised some perfectly normal people just don't get anything from.

Body Massage? Body Massage. Really great comedy, great to see it all in one place, and I'm happy this guy landed a writing gig. He's got a talent, fo sho.

They're all so wonderful... though I think my favorite is still 13 -- where he seems to be mocking the animation of the boy, Lady Jane with a nicotine itch, or just the general trippiness of it all.

BTW: Joe Headquarters great link for pretty the entire GI Joe cartoon character canon.

The moment the kid hits the ice in number 5 is just sublime. The action, the sound effect, the "ahfuck" that the kids says. It's just, I dunno, the funniest tenth of a second ever in the history of human expression.

mr_roboto : OK. What's the deal w/ #10.

My guess is that do to some astonishingly bizarre coincidence, the voice-over work accidentally contained an ancient Babylonian incantation ritual which summoned an unholy war spirit to disembowel every first born child in a city.

But they pulled it because it just didn't get the laughs they were looking for.

Also, I'm yet another Canadian that laughed his ass off about #5 (ice). It's as if they rotoscoped (very poorly) one of my family films.
