It sounds as if Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields) decided to sing for Ivy on another album of cover tunes.

Lords of the New Church, Killing Joke, Sisters of Mercy, The Wake, damn. I cannot wait to make my friends do a spit-take to these. At least "Making Plans for Nigel" is still slightly ominous.

Don't the also cover Dancin' With Myself and Heart of Glass for us senior citizens?

They do a charming cover of "The Killing Moon."

The first two NV records are great. I'm still waiting for a US release for NV3.

Yes! I actually knew about those two, but not the others.

I like their cover of "Just Can't Get Enough".

So I'm not the only person who owns the Lords of the New Church albums? Who would have thunk it.

My favorite Nouvelle Vague cover is Confusion, another New Order song.

You're not, though, admittedly, mine are elsewhere, buried in the in-laws' closet in a plastic crate.

I didn't know about the third record, thanks eyeballkid!

Now I feel vaguely embarrassed to own a Lords of the New Church CD.

I've always felt vaguely embarrassed to own a Lords of the New Church CD album. They were just that kind of band.

The Lords of the New Church were great in theory but on vinyl, not so much.

i'm a big a fan of their rendition of friday night saturday morning, personally. unfortunately all the videos of it being performed on youtube are pretty terrible. boo hiss.

Their cover of "Bela Lugosi's Dead" is great for driving the local Vampire LARPers into a tizzy. They stand around and act offended.

I loves me some Nouvelle Vague.

I think my favourite is their cover of Tuxedomoon's In a Manner of Speaking.

Although MetaFilter's OwnTM Amanda Palmer does a reasonable version, as well.

What a crazy random happenstance! I was just telling my boyfriend about this band yesterday.

I just go mad for the cover of "Dancing With My Self"

It's also possibly the only instance where Nouvelle Vague removed a bossa nova beat from a song when they covered it.

Nouvelle Vague, awesomeness.

The same person that turned me on to them last year repeated the trick recently with the Lost Fingers. Their latest album consists of fantastic jazzy covers of 80's tunes.

I too am in love with Nouvelle Vague. And also the sex patels who are a local band that do something similar.
