Heavy Metal Curling, FTW!

Heavy Metal Curling! Gothenburg band, Hammerfall joins forces with the Swedish Women's Curling Team for a power metal promo. Meanwhile, Americans get shafted with the godawful AT&T Team USA Soundtrack. Curling owns the 2010 Olympics.
The curling promo is indeed awesome, but to be accurate, it was filmed for the 2006 Olympics. I remember watching it then.

Curling has owned since forever. It's basically all you can watch on Sunday afternoons on TV in Ontario. That is a pretty bad-ass power metal curling video. It may, in fact, be the best ever.

I admit to having a bit of a crush on Cheryl Bernard. Go Team Canada, eh.

I agree with this statement. Curling is incredibly addictive. Fascinating and strangely intense.
Yes yes yes. Watching some right now, in fact.

One of the things that I've loved about watching the curling events is that the commentary/play-by-play seems so much more...intelligent than the commentary for most of the other events. I'm watching all this on NBC and its minions, and maybe I think the curling commentary is awesome because I don't have any other curling commentary to compare it to, but goddamn, it's such a relief.

It sounds like "Some Guys Have All The Luck" by Rod Stewart and "Enola Gay" by OMD had a baby together.

This is what you get when corporations make "creative" decisions - the USA produces some of the best pop music in the world, and yet we nonetheless have an "Olympic Soundtrack" (why do we need one of those again?) 100% filled with suck. My parents, who are in their 60s, would be embarrassed by how lame this is.

I can't understand why the US curling team didn't use M.C. Hammer's "Can't Touch This" as their curling theme. Seems like a perfect fit to me.

They're really still around? Really? Well, that's depressing. I once saw or read (I forget which) that the singer was asked why they chose that name, and he basically said "like duuuuude all the other names were like taken brah".

God I love Curling. And I'm absolutely the poster child of the people who didn't get into it until about ten days ago, and I don't care. I'm proud of it. I'm on the forefront of making the U.S. care about the coolest damn sport I've seen in ages. And while Canada's killing the American team precludes any affection for Cheryl Bernard, I have a pretty major crush on Nicole Joraanstad (and a little bit of a burning hatred for Debbie McCormick for not taking her more proper place at second or third earlier on when she had proven time and time again that she couldn't pull a draw shot to save her life and both Joraanstad and Pottinger were clearly superior to her, skills-wise, as is Natalie Nicholson but Nicholson is so good at lead that it'd be a crime to move her elsewhere and... well I could go on.)
This is Curling's year. And it's a better world for it.

Well, shoot. I came into this thread all prepared to defend curling as the interesting, intense, intelligent sport it is against a bunch of people who had never seen it before and thought it bizarre, boring, and baffling. And you guys got there all on your own...And you're discussing draw shots.
I love you Mefi.

Well we've been into curling since 2002! Unfortunately the Scottish British ladies didn't live up to expectations this time around.
