As the auction was proceeding in increments of the cost of a house it really hammered home how far the world of fine art investment is from the average joe. I eat hardly any processed sugar any more, though I do eat lots of fruits. And I limit my processed carbs as well -- just potatoes, sweet potatoes and white rice on occasion. I very rarely eat any desserts and bread. Over the past year and a few months I've lost 55 lbs, and it honestly hasn't been that hard.

Lifestyle changes are almost always less effective than medicine, sad but true. Focusing on dramatic shifts in diet and other factors is counterproductive, especially in the case of depression, where the patient is already feeling terrible about themselves - adding a big dollop of holier-than-thou shame to that strikes me as being extremely unsound therapy.

I don't think China's trying to say that they are less culpable by issuing their report. I think what they're doing is calling into question the idea that the US has some kind of moral high ground upon which to stand and criticize every other country in the world without any self-examination at all.

Photographer Richard Nickel also documented a lot of old Chicago, especially buildings on the verge of demolition. He often protested the scheduled demolition of buildings he thought should be preserved. Sadly, he was killed when one of those same old buildings collapsed on him while he was inside. Isn't part of the problem here that 33,000 inhabitants, wether they be Inuit or Swiss, are too small a group for the level of organization required in modern society? How can there be enough qualified teachers, doctors, nurses, police, judges, lawyers, social workers, business owners, accountants, snow machine repair men, construction workers, cooks, bankers, etc.?
