Rap's that genre based on Subterranean Homesick Blues, right?

Such a sad story.

Fun Bill Haley fact! The Upper West Side building in which he and the Comets recorded "Rock Around the Clock" (and also where Buddy Holly recorded his last songs) is an over-the-top Egyptian-themed building that was built as a meeting place for the Knights of Pythias. As membership in the Pythians declined they leased some of the space to Decca to use as recording studios. The building was sold and eventually converted to apartments. One... [more]

Expanding this to tracking them down and shooting them would be even better. One summer I worked in a shop outside which the same bloke would sit down every morning and proceed to play the theme from the Deer Hunter on his guitar over and over and over and over and over and over and over again till five in the afternoon. Polite requests for him to move or even just play something else were entirely ignored and it took a less than polite reminder regarding the fragility of stringed instruments... [more]

As much as we may have wished it otherwise, George W. Bush was (for all intents and purposes, questionable Supreme Court decisions notwithstanding) a democratically elected head of state. Assassinating a foreign head of state is unquestionably an act of war. Bin Laden, however, was not a head of state and held no office. Whether you believe Obama's targeted strike was legal or not, justifiable or not, Chomsky's hypothetical bears no comparable relation to reality.... [more]

The video made me feel a little bit queasy about the whole process. As the auction was proceeding in increments of the cost of a house it really hammered home how far the world of fine art investment is from the average joe. Every 10 seconds they were raising the bid by 10 nurses salaries or the cost of providing school for a year for 40 kids or a couple of hospital beds... Free market capitalism is funny like that. This shit that mixes stoner-tropes with medical politics is incredibly corrosive to the cause of legalization; it undermines both arguments. The wink and a nod to a corrupt system is just asking to get that system busted.

Lifestyle changes are almost always less effective than medicine, sad but true.
