Stuff similar to Springsteen's "Nebraska"?

What other sad, angsty, folksy stuff can you recommend in the vein of Bruce Springsteen's totally awesome "Nebraska" and maybe to a lesser degree Bon Iver's "For Emma, Forever Ago"?

Runnin' With The Songsmith

By request, this has been played through this. Unmodified or post processed in anyway, it sounds a little like a bad dub. But I thought I would post it as an example for other folks to see what is possible.

The Complete History of Lemmings

Mike Dailly, the creator of Lemmings, describes the story of the game's creation in "The Complete History of Lemmings." If you feel the need to play the game after reading that, try it in DHTML (previously mentioned, though the old link is dead), and if you need help here are some walkthroughs and level codes. Finally, to short-circuit the rumors about these misunderstood rodents: no, they don't jump off cliffs in real life.

Public Radio Podcasts

Public Radio Podcasts : NPR is a treasure trove of great audio content but most of it is not accessible via a podcast feed. This site uses the NPR API to construct proper podcast feeds for their shows that don't current have feeds (e.g. Morning Edition, All Things Considered) as well as per reporter and topic based feeds. Enjoy! [via mefi projects]

Money for nothing: a new era of zero interest rates?

The Fed cut 100 bps. BOE cut 150 bps. ECB cut 50 bps. India, Vietnam, The Czech Republic, Switzerland, Denmark, South Korea and other nations have all cut interest rates in recent weeks, with many Central Banks cutting more than once. The G20 is now discussing the possibility of further, coordinated interest rate cuts. As interest rates globally plummet, we are observing what some analysts are calling "The Race to Zero".

ESL Career Crisis!

Should I stay an English teacher or move on to a new career? I have been working in the ESL industry for eight years. I have a Bachelor's degree and CELTA. I have taught babies, young children, as a high school teacher, Business English, and IELTS preparation classes. I am an IELTS invigilator, and have curriculum design experience. I will be moving to Toronto soon, and I'm wondering what the next step in my career ought to be. I feel as though I've reached the limit of what I can do as a classroom teacher, and am interested in a counselling or international marketing role. Has anyone made this transition? What qualifications or re-training were needed? Am I on the totally wrong track? Should I just make a totally different move into a new industry?

How does running a B&B work?

So, my sweetheart and I are going to dump the city life, head down to eastern Canada, open a bed & breakfast, and live happily ever after. It's that last bit which is a little hazy. Neither of us have any experience running a B&B. This question is for MeFites who have. Is there anything you know now about running a B&B that you wish you’d known before?

Inside is a list of some of the greatest indie platformers, based on community recommendations and my own experience. Enjoy!
