Exquisite Embroidery

Peruvian artist Ana Teresa Barboza uses embroidery and fabric mixed with drawings and photo transfers to create "human and animal bodies that cause tenderness and terror alike." [brief bio in Spanish]
Her latest works, ANIMALES FAMILIARES, depict surprising animal and human interactions. Past works detail anatomy and tackle modes of dress, makeup, and disguises. [Links may contain artistic nudity, Spanish]
Lovely! I saw work by Cecilia Vicuña at the Tate in London a couple of years ago, but Barboza is new to me. Thanks for posting this.

So gorgeous and sensual and raw and full of longing. I love all of these, especially the pieces of the lovers, where the woman is sewing her lover in a bearskin, and the piece of the woman inside of the lion's mouth. It reminds me somehow of that poem The Woman at the Washington Zoo....you see what I am: change me, change me!
