Any idea how that cat got into that scanner, erm boat?

I like how carefully he kept her dry, even at the end.

But I wonder if she'll ever find her people again? Assuming she had people to begin with.

ha, I like the way he struts off, and then caresses the yellow thing with his tail up in a discreet "KTXBAI"

That's what I noticed too. That was in no way a 'fuck you,' that was catspeak for 'yeah I'm still not feeling safe even though you just saved my life back there, but you're probably not totally all bad so let me just linger here a little...'

You'd think there would be a skiff around a boatyard.

I notice how careful he was to not let go of the paws until there was a place for the kitty to go other than his exposed face.

So ends a valiant effort to become a ship's cat.

Also, I am clear that what the kitty was saying was, "Jag inte uppskattar att."
posted by bearwife at 1:30 PM on February 27, 2014 [2 favorites]

The order would be "jag uppskattar det inte" and since it's past tense "jag uppskattade" and specific "inte det där"...

My cat had quite a dramatic rescue of her own about six years ago. The meowing of the kitty in this video made her trot over to me with her SuperConcerned face on - just checkin' out what the cat sounds were all about!

I'm glad the kitty was rescued and kept pretty darn dry too.

I kept waiting for "a Møøse once bit my sister..." to appear in those opening credits.

Driver was trying to eat a submarine and lost control, rolled us onto our side, Chief. We was comin' back from the PetSmart... just delivered the catnip. The catnip buds. Three men went into the ditch. Truck rolled in twelve seconds. Didn't see the first cat for about a half-an-hour. F3 Savannah. Thirty pounder. You know how you know that when your truck is crumpled in the ditch, chief? You tell by listening to the thud when it leaps up onto the metal cab. Well, we didn't know. 'Cause our deal had been off-book, so we were now offically disavowed, huh. They didn't even list us overdue for a week. Very first light, chief. The cats come cruisin'. So we formed ourselves into a tight group. You know it's... kinda like 'ol triangles in battle like uh, you see on a calendar, like the battle of Waterloo. And the idea was, the cat goes to the nearest man and then he'd start poundin' and hollerin' and screamin' and sometimes the cat would go away. Sometimes he wouldn't go away. Sometimes that cat, he looks right into you. Right into your eyes. You know the thing about a cat, he's got... luminescent eyes, green eyes, like a god's eye. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'. Until he bites ya and those green eyes roll over white. And then, ah then you hear that terrible high pitch screamin' and the ground turns red and spite of all the poundin' and the hollerin' they all come in and rip you to pieces. Y'know by the end of that first dawn, lost two men! I don't know how many cats, maybe a thousand! I don't know how many bites, they averaged sixteen an hour. On Thursday mornin' chief, I bumped into a friend of mine, Herbie Robinson from Cleveland. Baseball player, truck driver. I thought he was asleep, reached over to wake him up. Toppled over in the grass, just like a kinda top all done spinning. Up ended. Well... he'd been chewed in half below the waist. Noon the fifth day, Mr. Hooper, a State Trooper saw us, he stopped to piss on the shoulder and he saw what was left of us down in the ditch. He's a young trooper, a lot younger than Mr. Hooper, anyway he saw us and run in fast. And three minutes later he's down in the ditch and starts to pick us up. You know that was the time I was most frightened? Waitin' to be dragged off. I'll never wear yarn again. So, three men went in the ditch, one man comes out, the cats took the rest, June the 9th, 2005. Anyway, we delivered the catnip.

Kitty is the image of my dear departed Evgeny. He had a habit of going wherever he liked, whenever he liked, and damn the consequences, too.

I'm surprised the cat wasn't all, "Thanks for the ride and all, but I really wanted to be there," and jumped back into the water to get back on the boat. My Gracie would do that.

Heh. I liked the cat sauntering away all "I meant to do that." My Molly would do that... after clawing the guy who rescued her, of course.

Hardcore cat rescue?

"HI I AM A FIREMAN WHO HAS FORGOTTEN HIS PANTS AND SHIRT. I AM HERE TO RESCUE YOUR CAT."
"OOOOOOH, I AM A HOUSEWIFE WHO HAS ALSO FORGOTTEN TO WEAR PANTS AND A SHIRT! YOU ARE JUST IN TIME TO RESCUE MY POOR, POOR..."

Poor kitty, that water must have been freezing.

I like how carefully he kept her dry, even at the end.

I've had to swim in a cold water survival suit for North Sea underwater helicopter evacuation training, and those suits are bloody hard to swim in - backstroke's pretty much the only way to be able to move, so while he was trying to keep the cat dry, he also didn't have much choice. (Also his life vest was a nice resting spot.)
