Nobiko, a Japanese cat known for an extreme, memeworthy length of 65 cm (well over two feet), has died at the age of 18. I have a clear idea of how this cat got wedged in our consciousness, and why.

He was a beauty. Much long.
I had a cat for quite a while who was over two feet long - big ol' bastard Maine Coon who could stretch up to put his feet on my belly while I was standing. He lived to about the same age, although we had to estimate since he was a rescue. Moved him across the country by plane - he didn't really fit in the biggest cat carrier, which also wasn't TSA-approved, but we bought the middle seat and thankfully no one paid too much attention. Man, I have some stories about that cat . . .
Now I have two tiny little girl cats, and they're amazing, but there's really something magical about a tom cat so big he could make random people swear.
