Ouch! Doctors suggest getting a tetanus vaccination every ten years. A tetanus booster shot may be required if a wound is deep or dirty.

Dear post-ironic culture.

OK, guise, I think we we need to have an intervention. I know that the speed and power of communication has made everything easier, but...
variety of humor and satire. Some of it vulgar, some of it subtle. But... uh, shit... I'm sorry. There isn't a gentle way to put this. And yes, I know I may sound hesitant, but what you are attempting is actually difficult, so, good for you on that point.

But really.

STOP RUINING EVERYTHING.

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

There are many aficionados of the batshitinsane tag. There are things and people in this world that are so far gone, we are surprised by their actual existance.

On behalf of other batshitinsane subscribers, I'd like to clear up the difference between 'batshitinsane' and 'insane'

Batshitinsane:
Timecube
Man for Young Girl to Become My Wife
Orbital Mind Control Lasers and tinfoil hats
Morgellon's Disease

Insane:
The Insane Clown Posse
The song "Insane in the Membrane"
Extreme Championship Wrestling

... it's not just a matter of degree. Note that the posted video is a project by warp records. It is intended for consumption as "insane" which means it is "insane-as-expression". It has to be meant in earnest for it to reach the batshitinsane level.
posted by cotterpin at 4:26 AM on September 28, 2008 [11 favorites]

Indeed. It is not "batshitinsane" If y'all are sitting around coming up with something "INSANE" on purpose. That is not how insane works, and that is not what it does. "Batshit insane" has a kind of untouchable magic that is utterly absent from,OH BOY LOOK AT US WE ARE CRAZY AND RANDOM AND SO FUUUUNNNNNYYYYY!!!"

Tim and Eric. It's not funny, great job!, Clark & Michael, Get out, share the memories.

I have to agree with this definition of batshitinsane. It's wrong if you're batshitinsane because you want to be batshitinsane. In fact, that's just batshitinsane.

I wanna tell you a little secret.

Being batshitinsane is just like being in love. No one needs to tell you you are in love, you just know it. Through and through. Balls to bones.

Post-ironic? It looks a lot like a regular ironic mindset to me, people are just laughing at others who look or act weird so that they (the laughers) can feel smugly superior. They don't actually LIKE this as a performance, they don't put this on their iPoddim or anything like that. True post-irony is actually liking this stuff, finding artistic value in it and so on, which is impossible.

The truly post-ironic are the ones at the opera and the ballet, appreciating the intensity of the performance and the performers, not worrying about whether it's cool or not, not worrying about whether the Dickies-and-Dunhills set approves. Post-irony means you enjoy things for what they are, not just for what they stand for. I post-ironically/non-ironically enjoy Bruce Springsteen (not Born in the USA though), for example. So please don't glorify this claptrap as post-ironic; it is mean and racist, and worse yet, dorkist. It is a point-and-laugh spectacle, and it doesn't even take the effort to make itself an intelligible parody or satire.

You know, I like Ben Folds just fine, but that song would mostly just be okay without Regina Spektor singing the backups. What actually makes the song is Regina Spektor hissing "at all" at the end of the chorus. That is what propels the song to greatness. Though the video's not particularly impressive.

Wait, what are we talking about in this thread?

I think this is opening up possibilities for new artistic expression, and in the future we'll look back on this as a seminal work.
