Ask MeFi post: Is Trazodone safe to use a single time?
There are effective over-the-counter sleep aids that have far fewer potential side effects than Trazodone. Have you tried any of those?

Also, this nurse is kind of disturbed that someone with an RN license is passing along a prescription drug to someone who's never taken it before and doesn't know what kind of effect it might have.

Ask MeFi post: WHY do men spit in the urinal???
I'm male, 49, and have never understood spitting.

There are a few times I have spitted. On my bike, after running through a cloud of gnats. I don't remember any other circumstances at the moment.

I do not eat sunflower seeds with shells on, in large part due to the spitting that seems to be required.

But lots of guys like to spit, frequently, even without consumption of sunflower seeds or oral tobacco.... [more]

MeFi post: "It's not a single process, it's 1,095 days of little decisions."
I agree with the point about the FTM article focusing too much on the medical aspects of transitioning, but then I remembered that there isn't a lot of writing or media about the more mental and emotional aspects of transitioning even amongst trans men. I am not sure what things are like for trans women, but the tumblr blogs, YouTube channels, and message board posts are all basically "hey, I'm 6 months on T, no beard yet, my voice is a little deeper, etc. etc.... Ask MeFi post: why is the snow killing my phone's battery?
As I understand it, you can adversely damage a Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer battery by charging or discharging below the safe operating temperature range through a process called lithium plating.

So if you take your phone in from the cold and immediately throw it on the charger, chances are really good that the core temps of the batteries did not come up to room temperature before the charging cycle began, even if your phone is warm to the touch on the outside. There's... [more]

What's probably happening is that GPS coordinates for these "lost" phones is bad, and the mapping program is throwing up its hands and pointing them to the default location for that zip code, which is unfortunately on top of this address.

This happens when processing addresses with ESRI GIS products. When they know you're in a certain polygon, but not exactly where inside the polygon, they go with the centroid of that polygon. It's the... [more]

Ask MeFi post: Explain how my one monthly chin pimple comes to exist.
It's not that the cheeks are ignoring the hormone -- it's because the acne is caused by an imbalance of testosterone and estrogen. Higher testosterone in relation to estrogen leads to acne. Your lower face has more testosterone receptors than the rest of your face. Really bad hormonal acne can also present on the shoulders, back, and buttocks for the same reason.

Fucking hell. I was just marveling again at his performance in Die Hard a couple of weeks ago. Bruce Willis might have gotten top billing, but Alan Rickman was the apotheosis of all sinister action movie masterminds in that film.

Ask MeFi post: If I didn't need food to live, I probably wouldn't eat
Crockpots and rice cookers and salads with dressing always seem like a good idea to me but the likelihood of my actually doing any of it is pretty much zero. Accepting that fact and ignoring the weird pressure to eat "well" and enjoy every meal has made my life way easier. During the workweek food is fuel; it doesn't have to be great, just tolerable, filling, easy, fairly healthy, and relatively cheap. I subsist on:

3. Taxes will probably mean that it is never profitable or sensible to play the lottery. So if you do play, try to minimize them.

I think that is true if you take the money all at once. If you take the annuity you pay like 50% taxes the first year, but then rich people tax rules kick in, and you pay almost nothing.

Honestly ignoring these wackos is the right course of action. An armed confrontation is what they want. Arrest them in a few months for tax evasion when they're out of the limelight.
