This is I guess my main problem with the concept of an "orientation" vs. an "identity" - how do I know what my platonic "orientation" is? Do I have to wait my whole life to see if I am attracted to any woman, ever, before I decide that I have a straight orientation?

Firstly, it's not a "debate" just because one person says it. Secondly, even she didn't say women shouldn't be doctors- she said people who are going to only work part-time after graduation (and she thinks this applies mostly but not fully to women) should consider not becoming doctors because the profession deserves more. In New York state, they specifically tell you that you must apply right away, because they will not backdate an application due to a delay in timely filing. I doubt you will be able to get back payments, but it never hurts to ask! Worst thing that happens, you get a little sass via phone from a government employee.

I think it's a little early for the relationship talk- that usually happens once you're trying to solidify something that's already hot and heavy, and this doesn't seem to be there yet. I would've double-checked the zipper and fasteners on my dress the night before to make sure they were all there in working order. The top fastener wasn't; the seamstress had replaced it with a thread fastener but I didn't notice until the day after.

This doesn't sound so much like a judgment issue as maybe just an issue of not liking one another. You say you love him, but do you like him? Do you enjoy being around him? Does being around him enrich you and make you happier most of the time? If he never changed and your life stayed pretty much as-is indefinitely, would that be OK?

I agree with the no jean almost-consensus, but need to add that I disagree with the folks telling you to ask. The bride and groom (or y'know, bride and bride or groom and groom...) have enough to worry about and enough people asking them stuff without having to deal with your outfit questions.

I totally agree! Don't put your friends in the tough spot of having to tell you not to wear jeans to their wedding.
