Your posts have been a wake-up call to me of what a judgmental parent I have been to my son. After much soul searching, I am now softening my style and becoming more of a supportive and understanding mother to my son who has gone through a lot of silent suffering.

Back in the day, somewhere around 1969 or so, I discovered Leonard Cohen. The two Cohen songs that became part of the background for my college experience were Suzanne and Sisters of Mercy. When I was four, my parents totally rigged a scene where Santa came on Christmas eve, while we were all at church. It had to do with distracting me so that one of them could run back in and throw all the presents under the tree, and I was young enough that I didn't figure it out for years and finally had to convince my mom to explain how they did it.

I have spent the last 5 days in the hospital with the man I love who is pooping bright red blood to the point of nearly passing out from shock, and who has needed 6 units of blood in order to keep his red cell level up to something able to sustain life. I was good friends with a group of self-identified juggalos when I was 16. There were around 8 of them and they were, to a man, very attached to the concept of family. Particularly self-made family. If I were in this situation - and I have to admit that part of the reason I'd do this is that I am a bit of a huge wiseass sometimes - I would leave the photos on my computer unaltered but when it was time to put some on Facebook, I'd copy the files, then go through all the photos for uploading and Photoshop out any of the little Bs. If you're running out of things to say, learn to ask more questions. You can learn so much from other people if you know how to ask the right questions. Cheaper than travel or any hobby! I don't think taking on any specific hobby will make you more interesting to other people- at least for me, I don't walk around at parties looking for the guy who's going to talk to me about some band I've never heard of for 15 minutes.
