April 26, 1979, Andy Kaufman performed for a sold-out crowd in Carnegie Hall, who were welcomed to their seat by a "press kit" containing a bag of jelly beans, a program and flier for the show, and other copied material, supposedly put together by Andy's mother. The show starting off with an impersonation of Tony Clifton and ending by taking the audience of 2,800 out for milk and cookies. About 10 months later on February 20, 1981, Kaufman hosted an episode of Fridays, ABC's attempt to duplicate the success of NBC's Saturday Night Live. Instead of performing the show as rehearsed, he took the entire cast and crew, the studio audience and a nation of television viewers hostage. Video links and more details inside.

How did kids under 2 travel in cars before car seats were the norm, particularly on long trips? My mom recalls tots in the lap and something called a 'car bed' (got any pictures?). Would little ones get lap-belted in to prevent them from falling off the seat on corner-turns?

New York City and Boston both have standard work weeks of 35 hours. It's 9-5pm but your lunch is included in there. Texas, California, North Carolina have a standard work week of 40 hours, so it's 9-6 to accomodate your lunch hour. I realize that it has to do with your job somewhat, but it is overwhelmingly consistent (even blue/white collar, salaried/hourly). Why?

Despite the most prestigious law firms in the country laying off almost 6,000 attorneys and 9,000 staff since the beginning of 2008, century-old law firms dissolving almost overnight, and law school tuition rising everywhere, law school applications are at an all time high. Even the number of law schools is rising.

But with the century-old Cravath system being "misapplied" by big firms over the last decade, historical income distributions have been disrupted.

For good or ill, things may be coming to a head.

This is sort of a personal question, so I don't know if anyone will really want to respond or not, but here goes. I'm at a point in my life where I'm seriously starting to cast about for a real relationship. But as I try and try to find somebody, I'm noticing that most of my ideas about how these things go down play out in my head like sixth-generation bootlegs of hokey '90s romantic comedies. I've never had a real relationship before. I think it would be easier for me to find one for myself if I knew what they looked like at the start. So my question to you is: How did you fall in love?
