I was crouching in my chair last night, naked except for boxers, cheering as the clock ticked down and a full 24 hours transpired. Then while I was waiting for someone to make a MeTa post (so my noting of the event wasn't the end of it) I finished off a bottle of Thunderbird and passed out watching Roxanne. This sounds like one of those situations where you (understandably) want to do something to relieve the fact that you feel terrible -- when actually it's not clear that it would help her at all. She'll be blindsided anyway, right? If you want to do something to make things less bad, start figuring out what things you might appropriately do after she's been fired to sympathize/console. It's also interesting to me that everyone seemed to buy in to the whole Myanmar thing, and then seemingly switched it off and started calling it Burma again. It's a neat little "fuck you" to the gang in charge.

I've run into a very similar problem, actually - it seems that OSX doesn't stat non-local directories unless there's user activity in the window. I was using a homemade photobooth script (on an ubuntu machine) and Xee on the OSX machine for display.

The solution was to run an automator action every minute or so that reads the shared directory, and copies the files to a local directory. Point the slideshow program to the local directory, and new files will be pulled... [more]

I don't know how well doubt, fear and trepidation fit in with the healing arts. As a matter of fact those are sure-fire energy zappers. No offense, KT, but I think your priorities may be a bit misplaced. Don't focus so much on which MA you're going to enroll your kid in, focus more on finding an instructor that has experience and is really good with small children. I also drive a lot for work, and have tried multiple ways of tracking my mileage. Really, the best answer is to just get a small travel diary from Office Depot. You'll spend more time setting up and monkeying with software than it would take to develop the habit of just writing the miles down. And you'd still be stuck with keeping receipts for hotels and meals.
